It’s been a while since I haven’t upgraded my blog, and I’ve taken a step back to this amazing news coming from Omnissa and Nutanix about having Omnissa Horizon on Nutanix AHV as a new opening category for my blog called Nutanix, for sure!
This is a great momentum to promote Omnissa in expanding its development to other hypervisor solutions to address secure, high-performance virtual desktops with the Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI) solution, giving the customer a way to choose and deploy Omnissa VDI in their on-premises datacenters, in private clouds, and across public cloud providers, while managing it all through a unified platform that provides consistency and control.
All documented and possible solution is documented here at Omnissa KB, explaining what’s possible and supported today to work with Nutanix as a Limited Availability (LA):
Limited availability in software development refers to an early, restricted release before General Availability (GA), where access is given to a select group for testing, feedback, and refining features before public launch.
Functionality available in Limited Availability as part of Horizon 8 2506:
- Deploy Horizon 8 infrastructure (Connection Server, Unified Access Gateway, Edge Gateway) on Nutanix AHV
- Configure Nutanix Prism Central as a capacity provided for Horizon 8. This supports on-premises deployments and NC2 on AWS.
- Create a golden image virtual machine running on Nutanix AHV
- Create and manage automated desktop pools on Nutanix AHV
- Support for persistent and non-persistent VDI desktop pools. Windows 10 and Windows 11 guest OS vTPM support
- No RDSH (Remote Desktop Session Host) support at this moment
- Sysprep customization
- vGPU support (based on golden image configured with vGPU attached)
- Support for pool power policy
- Refresh functionality for non-persistent pools (uses delete/recreate VM workflow)
- Push Image functionality to update non-persistent pool VMs with latest image
- Horizon Console management of Compute Profiles (CPU/RAM/vTPM)
- Horizon Console management of VM power operations (reset, restart)
- Unified Access Gateway for Nutanix AHV
- Horizon Edge Gateway for Nutanix AHV (limited to support for Horizon SaaS license activation)
